What is labial enlargement?

Labial enlargement is an increase in size of the inner labia { labia minora ) or enlargement of outer labia ( labia majora ). Enlargement of the labia can be caused by pregnancy, child birth. trauma or part of normal growth and development. Labia minora can be minimally enlarged or become extremely large and sometimes asymmetric, meaning one side is larger than the other side. This labial enlargement can be painful during intercourse or physical activity. Enlargement may also cause uncomfortable sensation in clothing and bathing suites or sometimest be unsightly and cause embarrassment.

What is labiaplasty?

Labiaplasty is a minor surgical procedure to reduce the size of the labia minora or labia majora. It is most common used to treat enlargement of labia minora, either to reduce the size or make the two sides match in size. By reducing the size of the labia the discomfort and embarrassment of the enlarged labia is reduced. Labiaplasty is a very short procedure usually under one hour and is completely painless. We use a numbing cream, that when applied to the area it allows the procedure to be performed without any sensation of pain. Sedation is also available for those who would like to not be aware of the procedure. there are different techniques for the procedure, a wedge excision or a longitudinal excision depending on the shape of the labia. Reduction of labia majora is less common, sometimes fat injection is used to improve the shape of labia majora rather then excision as in treatment for labia minora. Scarring is minimal and usually not seen in labiaplasty due to the type of tissue that is removed.

Is labiaplasty painful?

Labiaplasty procedure is completely painless with the use of our special numbing cream, and during recovery minimal pain is experienced by our patients.

What is recovery like after labiaplasty?

Labiaplasty recovery is very short. When surgery is performed under local in our private surgery suite in Sacramento area. Our patients can drive home after surgery and return to work the next day. When labiaplasty is performed with sedation, an adult must  drive you home due to effects of short acting sedation. Normal physical activity can be started in 24 hours but sports, riding horses, and riding bikes should be avoided for 1 month.
