According to recent studies Americans today are more interested in aging gracefully than a generation ago. People are concerned about looking good from their 40’s now on into their 70’s and sometimes even beyond. Nowhere is this more evident than in the area of male cosmetic surgeries and procedures. The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) conducted a study looking at trends among Americans. The results are eye opening. Americans spent almost $10.7 billion dollars on cosmetic procedures in 2010. Men had 750,000 of these procedures, which is an 88% increase from 1997.
Here’s a snapshot of the ASAPS findings of the five most common surgical procedures men are coming in for;
#1 Liposuction – Everybody has heard of liposuction, but what’s actually done? On surgery day the areas of concern are topographically marked by the surgeon. Fluid is infused into these fatty areas, then the fat is suctioned out into a canister a little at a time.
#2 Rhinoplasty (nose job) – Rhinoplasty in Sacramento is one of the most common procedures that Dr. Mabourakh performs. A lot of time men come in with complaints that range from “I don’t like the hump” or “my nose his crooked, how do i fix it?”. These areas are addressed which can have a dramatic effect on the man’s overall appearance and confidence.
#3 Eyelid surgery – During eyelid surgery, extra skin and bulging fat can be removed or repositioned get more. Less is more here. Not being overdone is the key, to having a natural looking appearance during eyelid surgery. Dr. Mabourakh performs many eyelid surgeries for his patients in Sacramento.
#4 Gynecomastia (male breast reduction) – Male breast development is more common than most people think, with over 18,000 men undergoing surgical correction in the US in 2010. Procedures range from liposuctioning the area alone to removing extra skin and tissue. These surgeries are targeted through the most inconspicuous scars possible to encourage patient comfort when shirtless.
#5 Otoplasty (ear pinning) – Last but not least is surgical ear pinning with almost 11,000 procedures performed on men in 2010. This procedure falls farther down the female list of most common procedures at number 12. This is presumably because women may have the ability to cover their ears with longer hairstyles than men.
