Spend Your Holidays “Turkey” Free With A Neck Lift in Sacramento with Dr. Mabourakh
You may have heard people unaffectionately refer to their loose or sagging neck skin as “turkey neck” or “turkey wattle.” The term derives from the loose neck skin mimicking the look of a turkey’s neck. This excess skin on a person’s neck can cause a person to look older. If you are unhappy with your appearance due to sagging neck tissue and would like a more sculpted jaw line, you may want to consider a neck lift.
What causes sagging neck tissue?
The youthful appearance of contoured skin in the neck can be caused by any number of factors including environmental conditions, stress, aging, and heredity. Some people experience excess fat and relaxed skin in the jowl area as well as an excess of fatty deposits in the chin area. Loose neck skin and muscle banding can give the appearance of sagging tissue around the neck.
Could I benefit from a neck lift?
If you experience loose skin around your neck, you may be an ideal candidate for a lower rhytidectomy, commonly known as a neck lift. Some patients opt for a full face lift, but others may be satisfied with their facial appearance and only seeking to improve the appearance of their neck area.
If you are healthy, no medical conditions that would impair the healing process, and do not smoke, Dr. Shahriar Mabourakh may suggest a neck lift.
How is the neck lift surgery performed?
When you come to Sacramento Area Plastic Surgery & Laser Center for a neck lift, our highly trained staff will be available to assist you throughout the process. Upon arrival for your surgery, you will be given general anesthesia or intravenous sedation, depending on what is right for you.
An incision will be made based on your particular needs to achieve your desired look. If necessary, excess fat can be redistributed or removed using liposuction and any muscle damage can be repaired. The incisions will be treated with sutures and possibly skin glue to close the surgery site. Once healed, the incision sites are usually well concealed around the ears and hairline.
What should I expect after surgery?
After surgery a bandage will be applied. If needed, a small tube will be present to drain excess fluid from collecting under the skin. You will be provided with medications and instructions to care for your surgery site. It is very common to experience swelling and bruising after a neck lift as your body heals. Keep your head elevated and do not ice the site as this can destroy the tissue. Your sutures should naturally dissolve. Dr. Mabourakh will schedule a follow up exam to ensure your body is healing correctly and you are happy with your results.
