Whats New In Plastic Surgery Series – Breast Reconstruction

At the recent American society of Plastic Surgery (ASPS)  There was great deal of discussions regarding breast reconstruction advances which is very relevant to what we do here in Sacramento. I have been in practice for over 20 years and have seen significant changes in our approach to breast reconstruction. Breast cancer is a devastating diagnosis for any family to endure. Fortunately there has been great deal of advances in treatment and diagnosis with high survival rates and much better life styles after diagnosis and treatment.
Along with these advances in breast cancer treatment we have also seen improvement in surgical breast reconstruction. In the state of California breast reconstruction after breast cancer surgery is a covered benefit under all insurance carriers. this is great news for any one undergoing treatment for breast cancer to know that they no longer have to live with the deformity, and reconstruction is possible.
There are multiple breast reconstruction options including using patients own tissues, expander and implants and even fat injection to improve the appearance of reconstructed breasts. These will be discussed in the next blog coming soon this hyperlink.
